Where can I find SaferEdit?[edit | edit source]

This is the wrong question here: SaferEdit will find you! It saves the article automatically while you are editing at predetermined intervals. If you stop editing without cancelling or saving the page, but rather, for example, switching to another article, then when you next edit the article, a dialogue opens which offers to restore the temporary version you were working on. If you leave a page in the edit view without saving, a warning message is given. In addition, the page is marked as "under construction".

Functionality[edit | edit source]

As soon as the first changes are made in the input area, SaferEdit starts to save the whole entry every 30 seconds. This period can be changed in the wiki administration's Settings.
If you leave a page in the edit view without saving, a warning message is given.

As soon as you call up the page again, all changes are shown to you in a dialogue.

The buttons enable the following functions:

  • Cancel: You leave the window without changes.
  • Restore: The version displayed is inserted as the content, replacing the older content of the page.

Additional functions[edit | edit source]

The recovery versions are saved for the user and are only available to this user. They are not, however, deleted when he or she logs off, and are available when the user logs on again. The issue of edit conflicts often comes up here: If the page has been edited by another author, then this is shown in the StateBar, in order to let other authors know.

Tips for working with SaferEdit[edit | edit source]

SafeEdit is useful when you have just accidentally closed the input box or left it. If, on the other hand, you open a page for the first time and find old recovery versions, you can generally just delete them.
If the page is intentionally left, however, i.e. you have saved the page or clicked on "Cancel", then the existing recovery versions are deleted and are not available.
Incidentally, MagicWord can be used to switch saving off.
